Rethinking Urban Management: A Must-Attend GIS Workshop for Future Economists
As cities transition toward becoming Smart Cities, powered by data and technology, one question arises: What role do economists play in shaping the cities of tomorrow? One powerful answer lies in the upcoming hands-on workshop: “GIS and Remote Sensing for Smart City Management” — part of a four-workshop series launched by the Faculty of Economics, Thammasat University later this year.
This workshop will introduce participants to spatial perspectives on urban environments using tools like Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing. These technologies are essential in urban planning, land use analysis, traffic and risk mapping, and infrastructure development — equipping students with the ability to see and shape cities through the lens of data.
The course will cover a wide range of content, from Urban GIS fundamentals and data acquisition, to satellite image interpretation, and the creation of Web Maps and GIS Applications that simulate real-world smart city operations. Participants will build their own projects with guidance from two expert instructors: Mr. Thantham Khamyai, CTO & Co-Founder, GIS LAB TRUE MIRACLE CO., LTD and Ms. Davida Klangreongrong, Academic Services Center, Chulalongkorn University
🗓 Date: October 14–16, 2025
🕔 Time: 17:00–19:00
📍 Venue: Faculty of Economics, Thammasat University (Rangsit Campus)
